Oh gosh, it’s been a long time since I’ve been here. It’s like visiting an old friend but knowing exactly where each is at, as if there’s never been any time passed. Well, maybe not quite like that. However, I have discovered that I am me and I am still me, just like I was me that last time I posted. It still love paint … Continue reading Diversifying…and remote teaching
My aim this year was to use up all the pages in my art journal. And I just about made it. I think there are 2 pages left. That’s a pretty good effort I reckon. Here’s few snapshots of some favourite pages from the year: There is a bit of a theme – circles and bright colours. Random scribbling and exploring creativity. I’m thinking this … Continue reading Creative adventures – 2013 Art journals
This week I’ve been drawing faces in an attmept to develop a little stylised icon of my own. It is a return to something I started last year. Turns out it’s not so easy. Well maybe for some…not me! But I have also been reading a new book – Doodles Unleashed by Traci Bautista. Continue reading “Drawing faces”
Recently I had a birthday! And what a great day it was. Made very special by those around me who showed me great love and showered me with many gifts. One imaginative and thoughtful gift was a brush stylus for the iPad. Who knew I would love it so much! Here’s what I’ve created so far, using the Nomadbrush and the Procreate app. … Continue reading iPad painting
It’s been a grey old day here in Melbourne with constant drizzle. I didn’t mind that too much as the plan for the day was some Folio marking, sewing up a pair of lovely orange trousers for my daughter and then hopefully some drawing. I am pleased to say, all was achieved. Hooray. I found the image in a magazine recently and was so taken … Continue reading A good day for drawing
At the moment life is full of all those end of term bits and pieces, including reports. It’s not that I really love writing reports but I do enjoy reflecting on the successes of each student. I feel like I am in a privileged position where most students enjoy Art and together we find a way for them to succeed in their own style. I … Continue reading Artwork update
Even though I’ve been out of action a couple of weeks, I have found a little bit of drawing has been quite restorative. This is a drawing from back in April but it has been inspiring me a great deal over the last month or so.
I’ve pondering this direction with my artwork. Lovely, detailed pencil drawing rendered with beautiful inks. I think the technique of being loose with the ink really lends itself to my style and process. I am enjoying the inks and also developing my drawing skills. Continue reading “An artwork update – enjoying the journey”
Wow, is that the time already? It sure does fly when you’re having fun. And I couldn’t let a Sunday go by without a post – even if it is Mother’s day. What a lovely day it has been. I have been celebrated as a mum and have celebrated my own mum. With a roast lamb lunch and a very relaxed afternoon. So here … Continue reading Creativity lives!
Having got to the end of the week and looking back over what it was, it is nice to see some progress. I’ve been thinking about what art making is actually about. It seems to me that a lot of what it’s about is being comfortable with yourself and how you make art; or else being so compelled by having to make art or get a message communicated that you ignore the feelings of insecurity and do it anyway.
There are a lot things written about the inner critic – those thoughts you have about your work that make you hesitate to do something. Whilst it is not fun, It encourages me that I am not the only one who deals with this. I have come to the conclusion that the only way to ignore these thoughts is to just get on with it – the art making, the writing, the exercise, music making. Work out ways to do a little bit often which will hopefully lead to the bigger picture. Continue reading “the inner critic”
As mentioned in the last post the list of great ideas was one that I could keep on going with. So here we go! Continue reading “More great ideas to get drawing”
